Dr. Ma’s group focuses on the development of computational methods (especially machine learning algorithms) to better understand the organization and function of the human genome in different cellular conditions, which can inform us about the genomic and epigenomic mechanisms of human diseases. His group also works on developing methods for integrating high-dimensional biomedical data from multiple modalities (e.g., genomics and imaging data). Recent interests include machine learning algorithm development for addressing questions in nuclear genome organization, complex molecular interactions, cancer genomics, single cell biology, and genome engineering. His group has been involved in several NIH consortiums, including 4D Nucleome, Somatic Cell Genome Editing, HuBMAP, and ENCODE.
